Police nab burglary suspect inside W. Charlotte nightclub

Police arrested a 24-year-old man Monday and charged him with breaking into the Savoy 2002 Nightclub on Brookshire Boulevard.
When officers from the Freedom Division responded to a burglary alarm at the club, they found the building’s rear door was slightly ajar. Inside, according to police, they found Bobby J. Barrett with a hammer in his hand.
Police said Barrett ran but was quickly apprehended.
According to police, he had pried open the back door and cash registers.
He was charged with breaking and entering with force.

Police ID suspect killed during home invasion

Police on Saturday identified a suspect killed during an alleged home invasion as 29-year-old Jonathan Kendrell Boddie.
Police said he was shot and killed when he and another man forced their way into a home in the 2400 block of Finchley Drive in the North Tryon Division. The second suspect is being sought by police.
Based on initial interviews, Police said the suspects saw a man sitting outside the house in a vehicle and forced him inside, where they began to beat him. When a female resident heard the commotion, she fired at the suspects, killing Boddie.
The Charlotte Observer reported that the homeowner’s girlfriend fired the shots.
The Observer also reported that Boddie had an extensive arrest record, including a conviction for being an accessory after the fact to second-degree murder. He was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison, a sentence that ran concurrently with his other convictions.
At the time of his death he was awaiting trial on a drug charge.
