Police say victim and killer were both 15
Police identified the victim of Monday night’s homicide in northwest Charlotte as 15-year-old Trevell Rembert, and they charged another 15 year old with murder.
Because of the suspect’s age, police did not release his name.
Police said the two boys were friends.
The killing , just off Beatties Ford Road in the Washington Heights neighborhood, was the second high-profile case this month involving a juvenile.
Police on July 8 arrested a 12-year-old on suspicion that he stabbed a sales clerk in a cell phone store during an apparent robbery. He victim survived but required hospital treatment.
In the case of the Monday night homicide, police said Rembert was shot and killed around 1 a.m. after a night of playing video games at a home in the 2200 block of Tate Street.
When officers arrived, they found Rembert lying in a hallway suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was pronounced dead.
Police earlier in the day were interviewing witnesses to determine whether the shooting was accidental or intentional.
