Police are looking for the driver of a car involved in a hit-and-run late Saturday that killed a 55-year-old man on Albemarle Road in east Charlotte.

Authorities did not immediately release the victim’s name pending notification of family members. He was described in police reports as white male.

Police said the victim was attempting to cross in the 6800 block of Albemarle when a vehicle struck him and the driver kept going. A passerby discovered him later and called police at 10:29 p.m.

The man died Sunday at Carolinas Medical Center.

Police said the vehicle could possibly be black or dark colored. It will have front-end damage with a broken headlight.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-336-1600.
