Police seek help in locating homicide suspect
Charlotte Mecklenburg police have requested the public’s help in locating a man suspected in a weekend shooting that left one man dead.
Demontre Rice, 27, is wanted on a murder charge in the death of 17-year-old Stanley Naquon Taylor. Police said Rice should be considered “armed and dangerous.”
According to initial police reports, the shooting happened Saturday around 4:17 a.m. in the 1300 block of Lasalle Street, just north of downtown. When officers arrived at the scene, they could not locate a victim.
A short time later, paramedics were flagged down at Statesville Avenue near I-85 in reference to a male suffering from a gunshot wound. Police determined that the man was the victim from the Lasalle Street shooting. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
Police said the victim was driven from he shooting scene by witnesses who were cooperating with police.
According to Mecklenburg jail records, Rice has been arrested at least six times since 2011, most recently in August, when he was charged with multiple counts, including driving with a revoked license and fleeing an officer.
Anyone who knows where Rice is located is asked to call CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) at (704)336-VCAT or call 911.
