Police seek help in solving robbery/kidnapping
Police are requesting the public’s help in solving a robbery/kidnapping that took place Sunday evening in the 1700 block of Central Avenue.
A woman told police she was robbed of her vehicle (1998 Jeep Cherokee, N.C. license plate YRY-7138) and kidnapped at about 8 p.m. as she was preparing to leave the parking lot of a grocery store.
According to police, the suspect broke into the victim’s vehicle and waited for her to return from shopping. Once the victim entered her vehicle and began to drive away, the suspect placed a handgun to her head and demanded money. The victim then drove the suspect to an ATM where she was forced to withdraw cash from her account.
After driving away from the ATM on The Plaza, the suspect released the victim and drove off in her car. The victim ran to a nearby house and called 911.
The suspect, whose image was caught on a store surveillance camera, was described as a black male, about 5-feet, 10-inches tall, with a thin build.
The vehicle had not been recovered as of mid-morning Tuesday.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600, or contact 911 immediately if you know either the name or location of the man shown in the surveillance photo or if you have seen the victim’s vehicle.
