Police seek robbery suspect

Police Monday morning were looking for an 18-year old man suspected of robbing a Gaston County Dairy Queen before cutting off an electronic monitoring device to escape capture.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Elias Hernandez was being chased into Mecklenburg County Sunday when he jumped from a vehicle and cut off cut off his monitor on Opal Street near Tuckaseegee Road in west Charlotte. Police said shots were fired during the pursuit.

Hernandez was on bond facing charges of larceny from autos and had been placed on CMPD’s electronic monitoring program.

Police said Hernandez -- 5-feet-8, 150 pounds -- should be considered armed and dangerous.
