Police are seeking witnesses to what they described as a “moving altercation” between two drivers early Sunday morning north of uptown Charlotte.

Tariq Hamid El, also known as Bobby Steele, remains hospitalized at Carolinas Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

Police say the shooter, who was not identified, called 911 to report that he had fired several shots into a car driven by Hamid El, who suffered life-threatening injuries.

Police said the shooter remained on the scene until officers arrived.

The shooting happened at about 12:13 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of North Church Street and West 24th Street.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a homicide d, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
