Police warn public of bizarre robbery string
Police in the University City area are warning residents about a string of robberies involving a suspect who posed as someone looking to buy a second-hand iPad.
At least three people have reported similar robberies in the last two weeks.
In each case, police said, the suspect found victims through Craig’s List, the popular website where readers can post items for sale or solicit items they wish to buy. After contacting an iPad owner, the suspect offers to buy the mobile device for well above the owners’ purchase price.
Police said the suspect then suggests an apartment complex in the University area where buyer and seller can meet. Once there, the iPad owners were robbed.
Police gave no description of the suspect.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
