Pro-life, pro-choice advocates disappointed in reform
Pro-life and pro-choice advocates agree: To each side, according to a story in The Root.com, the sweeping new health care reform is a huge defeat.
Now, both sides have vowed to campaign against elected officials who voted for the legislation that President Obama signed into law on Tuesday.
President Obama pledged in the measure to issue an executive order banning the use of federal money to pay for abortions, a deal that ended a stalemate between the administration and Democrats who oppose abortion and did not want federal money to pay for the procedures outside of those allowed under the Hyde Amendment.
Some pro-lifers, according to the story, do not consider the executive order to be binding, while some pro-choice advocates consider it more binding than the Hyde Amendment, but both sides want more political allies who could plead their case during critical votes such as health care reform.
