Charlotte-Mecklenburg police today are investigating the city’s first homicide of 2010 -- a stabbing that left a 23-year-old man dead in northeast Charlotte.
Police were called around 11:52 to the 6600 block of Santa Cruz Trail concerning a reported street fight. When officers arrived, they found Robert George Long Jr. lying on the front porch of a home, suffering from an apparent stab wound to the chest area.
Medic pronounced him dead at the scene.
Based on witness statements, investigators believe the fight began as a verbal altercation between several individuals over what police described as a “small monetary debt.” The argument became physical and Long was subsequently stabbed.
All parties involved were reported to be at police headquarters, and detectives were not seeking additional subjects.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit. Detective N. McKee is the lead detective assigned to the case. In addition, you may also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
