Raleigh woman charged with taking baby in 1987
A Raleigh woman suspected of abducting an infant from a New York City hospital more
than two decades ago has surrendered to authorities.
Ann Pettway, 49, surrendered Sunday at an FBI office in Bridgeport, Conn., the News & Observer of Raleigh is reporting, quoting a spokeswoman for the N.C. Department of Correction. She is expected to appear in court today.
Authorities say that in 1987 Pettway abducted Carlina Renae White, who was 19 days old, from a Harlem, N.Y., hospital and raised the child in Bridgeport, Conn., as Nejdra Nance.
White was recently reunited with her birth family.
According to the N&O, Pettway faces unrelated legal troubles in Raleigh as well.
