Former Mecklenburg Commissioner Dan Ramirez, a Republican, said he plans to make another run for the county board this fall.

Ramirez was an at-large commissioner from 2002 to 2004 and from 2006 to 2008. He said Friday that he plans to again run for an at-large seat.

Citing what he described as “ever increasing taxes, shrinking job base, dwindling paychecks, mounting government entitlements and obtrusive control over our lives,” Ramirez said he is running again because residents are concerned about the future of the nation and Mecklenburg county.

Ramirez is a native of Bogota, Colombia. He moved to the United States in 1970 with his wife, Cecy. He is president and CEO of Nova Data Systems in SouthPark.

The entire nine-member county board is up for election in November. The filing period begins Feb. 8.

Former Mecklenburg Sheriff Jim Pendergraph has said that he may seek an at-large seat. Another potential candidate is teacher Corey Thompson, the Charlotte Observer reported.
