Rape suspect arrested in New York
Federal law enforcement in New York City have arrested a man charged with raping a
Charlotte women in 2007.
Jason Lee Mojica, 27, was taken into custody Thursday in the Bronx section of the city. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said he was wanted in Charlotte on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree kidnapping.
Police say evidence linked Mojica to an August 2007 attack in which a woman reported to police that she was walking in the 7500 block of Forest Point Boulevard when she was approached by two unidentified assailants who forced into some woods, where one of the suspects raped her.
CMPD signed a warrant for Mojica’s arrest on March 4 and began looking for him. After learning that he was in New York, CMPD worked with the U.S. Marshals Service to locate and arrest Mojica.
CMPD is still working to identify the second suspect in the ’07 case.
Mojica has a long arrest record in Charlotte, including kidnapping, assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Detective Laura Orlov is the lead detective assigned to the case. She can be reached at 704-336-8279.
