A man was shot and killed Wednesday during an apparent robbery in the parking lot of a north Charlotte shopping center.
Police did not immediately release the victim’s name but said the incident did not appear to be a random act.
The shooting happened in the parking lot of the Caldwell Crossing shopping center at 237 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road.
When police arrived, they found the victim lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center.
Police said that, based on preliminary witness statements, the victim was approached by a black male who got into the victim’s car and, a short time later, shot him. The shooter then ran to a nearby Mazda Protégé (silver or possibly gold) or some similar vehicle and fled towards Gaston County on Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road.
The driver of the getaway car was described as a black male, possibly in his late 30s.
The shooter was described as being in his late 30s, about six feet tall with a muscular build and low-cut hair. He was wearing a black toboggan with a brim and a black bomber jacket with an orange inner lining and fur around the hood.
At this point in the investigation, police say they believe the suspects and victim knew one another.
