SC State on track for record enrollment
South Carolina State University is on track for what could be one of its largest enrollments this fall.
As of March 11, the Orangeburg, S.C., school had received more than 6,000 applications, the university recently announced. That surpasses the 5,329 received in 2010; the 5,273 received in 2009; and the 4,498 received when SC State hosted the first Democratic presidential debate of the 2008 election cycle.
“The type of students who have submitted the applications that we have received to date are academically-talented, first generation to attend college and minority students,” the university said in a statement. “The challenge for us, however, is to assist these students in enrolling and finding the needed academic and need-based scholarship dollars to assist them financially, but we are hopeful that we will be successful in this regard.”
