A SC State University senior died early Saturday after he was shot in the upper torso and crashed his car into a university building.

When paramedics arrived, they initially treated the incident as a routine traffic accident but later discovered entry and exit wounds. The student, whose name was not immediately released, died two hours later at Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia, S.C.

University officials said the 22-year-old student was from Holly Hill, S.C.

The S.C. State Police Department and State Law Enforcement Division are investigating.
