School board will meet to discuss home schools, magnet schools
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board will meet today to continue its discussion of the “guiding principles” adopted last week.
That document, approved 5-3, listed neighborhood schools as a top priority, high above racial and economic diversity. The board will use the document as it sets policy in areas such as transportation, student assignment, magnet lottery and other district operations.
Critics say the policy will lead to re-segregation of local schools.
The work session will be held at the Government Center, room 267, from 2-5 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.
