Police are investigating an apparent mid-day murder in west Charlotte just off Tuckaseegee Road.

Neighbors told police they heard screams coming from a residence in the 1200 block of Effingham Road. When the screaming stopped, a neighbor entered the home and found a woman lying on the floor.

The incident was reported just before noon.

Police said the woman showed signs of bodily trauma. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

The victim was not immediately identified, police said.
