Man shot dead at motorcycle club meeting

A man was shot and fatally wounded Sunday while attending a motorcycle club meeting near Eastway Drive and The Plaza.

The victim was identified Monday as 40-year-old Chaple Bernard Waymyers, an African American.

The shooting was reported to police at 2:27 p.m. near the 1100 block of Commercial Avenue in the North Tryon Division. When officers arrived, they founded the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Based on initial interviews, police said the victim was attending the meeting when the suspect entered and began shooting. Police said the shooter and victim knew one another

Police offered no potential motive for the killing.
