Three charged in fatal shooting north of uptown

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Friday they have charged three people in a Thursday night shooting that left a 47-year-old man dead and another critically injured.
The suspects – Cedric L. Mobley, 20, Justin S. Dixon, 21, and Phillip D. Henderson, 20 – are charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon, police said in a statement.
The arrests came after police were sent to the 1100 block of Fontana Avenue shortly before midnight Thursday after receiving a report that two people had been shot.
One of the victims, 47-year-old Michael Crawley, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center but died a short time later. A second, unidentified man was taken to Presbyterian Hospital where he was in critical condition Friday.
People say they found a suspicious vehicle near the crime scene, which is north of uptown in the Greenville community. The K-9 unit responded to the scene, but was unable to find anyone in the area, police said.
But officers said later Friday that they had arrested a suspect in the case. A few hours later, police said they had made three arrests.
Records show that each of the suspects has been arrested in the past, largely on traffic or other misdemeanor offenses. But Dixon was awaiting trial on a felony hit and run charge, records show. Henderson was accused earlier this year with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, but the charges were later dismissed.
Police said the case remains under investigation, and asked anyone with information to call 704-432-TIPS to speak with a homicide detective or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
