A man shot Sunday evening in northeast Charlotte died from his injuries Monday at Carolinas Medical Center.
Police identified the victim as 29-year-old Michael Pernell Smith, whose death brings the city’s 2010 homicide count to 24. Fourteen people had been killed in Charlotte this time last year.
The shooting occurred in the 500 block of Camrose Drive, just off The Plaza. Police said the incident may have stemmed from an ongoing dispute.
Also on Monday, police identified two people whose bodies were found Sunday inside a car in west Charlotte.
CMPD listed the victims as Dominique McGriff, 21 and Tia Mitchell, 23.
The two were found shot to death shortly after 11 p.m. in the 2900 block of Morning Drive, just off West Boulevard, between uptown and the airport.
The double homicides capped a weekend of violence that saw four people killed in the Qcity.
The fourth victim was 20-year-old Devon Alister Clement, who was shot and killed around 4:19 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Cookout Restaurant in the 1300 block of West Sugar Creek Road. Witnesses told police Clement may have been involved in an altercation with several people outside the restaurant immediately before he was shot.
Police on Tuesday announced an arrest in the Smith killing.
