St. Augustine's College wins Pioneer Bowl
The St. Augustine’s College Falcons won the 2010 Pioneer Bowl Saturday – the school’s first bowl victory -- by defeating the Fort Valley State Wildcats 20-9.
The Pioneer Bowl is one of two HBCU bowl games (the other is the Heritage Bowl) and is played between teams from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).
An estimated 3,745 people saw Saturday’s matchup inside AJ McClung Stadium in Columbus, Ga.
Both teams entered the game 8-2.
The St. Augustine’s win marked the first CIAA claim of the Pioneer Bowl since 2004, when Shaw University edged Tuskegee University, 30-28.
