'Stop the Sag'
Every generation, it seems, has clung to fashion trends that drove the old folks crazy. Think about the zoot suit, mini skirts, platform shoes -- even boys with braids.
Are sagging pants any different?
New York State Senator Eric Adams recently launched a campaign called “Stop the Sag.” His message to young black males: Pull up your pants; there’s nothing cute about showing your underwear.
In a Youtube video posted last week, Adams goes even further, comparing the trend to blackface and other negative images foisted upon African Americans. Except this time, he says, the damage is self-inflicted.
Newspapers say the Brooklyn politician is behind six new anti-sag billboards around New York City.
Adams was quoted recently as saying, "Children will be children. But as adults, we need to be on record and tell them they're doing something wrong."
Is this much ado about nothing, or, as Adams suggests, are young black males guilty of self-assassination?
