Suspect shot in Subway robbery is released from hospital
Demetrius Thomas, one of two suspects shot during an apparent robbery of a Subway restaurant in north Charlotte,
was released from Carolinas Medical Center Monday.
Thomas, 19, was booked in the Mecklenburg jail on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Records show that Thomas had been arrested at least 15 arrests in recent years, including two armed robbery charges since October.
A second suspect, 20-year-old Jamal Steven McKenith, died at the scene. McKenith had been arrested at least three times during the last 2 ½ years.
Police said the men where shot by a Subway employee during an apparent armed robbery Jan 17 at the restaurant on West Sugar Creek Road.
Police further allege that a third suspect, Deonna Brown, drove the getaway car during the robbery. She was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
