An 18-year old man suspected of robbing a Gaston County Dairy Queen and firing at police as he fled has turned himself in.

Police on Monday asked for the public’s help in locating Elias Hernandez. Hours earlier, authorities said, he had jumped from a vehicle being chased by police then cut off an electronic monitoring device on Opal Street near Tuckaseegee Road in west Charlotte.

Hernandez was on bond at the time, facing charges of larceny from autos, and had been placed on CMPD’s electronic monitoring program.

Police said Hernandez turned himself in Tuesday to the Violent Criminal Apprehension team and was being interviewed by law enforcement authorities in Gaston County.
