A SWAT team exchanged fire with a suspect in east Charlotte late Thursday night after the man allegedly fired on officers who went to investigate a domestic dispute.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, received a minor injury and was treated at Carolinas Medical Center, police said.

The incident was reported at 11:37 p.m. at a residence in the 4200 block of Somerdale Lane.

Police were called to the address in reference to a dispute between a mother and son. The mother told police that her son was armed and intoxicated. Police said the suspect fired on investigating officers from behind the residence.

At some point during the standoff, a SWAT team was call. SWAT officers returned fire while being fired upon by the suspect, police said. The suspect later surrendered and was taken for evaluation.
