Vanessa Taylor, the Johnson C. Smith University women’s basketball coach, was named CIAA women's coach of the week for the fourth time this season.

The Lady Golden Bulls went 2-0 last week with victories over divisional rivals Winston Salem State (64-60) and Shaw University (73-67).

Taylor’s team is 18-1 this season and sits atop the CIAA Southern Division with a seven-game winning streak and a perfect 9-0 record on the road.

“We’ve truly been focused this year on operating as a collective unit, so all honors and awards are shared with the coaching staff and student-athletes,” Taylor said in a statement. “We’ve accomplished some good things this season, but the road doesn’t get easier and the urgency is to finish strong.”

The Lady Golden Bulls return to their home court tonight (Feb. 7) against Fayetteville State University, a team they beat earlier this season 60-32 in Fayetteville. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30.
