The Panthers should replace John Fox now
I know some of you are thinking it, so I’ll just say it out loud: If a mid-season coaching
change in Dallas boosted the Cowboy’s performance, shouldn’t we do the same in Charlotte?
After firing Wade Phillips and replacing him with interim coach Jason Garrett, the Cowboys looked rejuvenated in their 33-20 win over the New York Giants Sunday night. Meanwhile in Charlotte, the Panthers continue their gloomy season under head coach John Fox.
In the real world, Fox would have been fired a week ago when he spouted off in a postgame news conference about having to coach players he did not choose. Passing the buck was not one of his finer moments.
To Fox’s credit, the Panthers had one of their best offensive outings Sunday against Tampa Bay. Running back Mike Goodson rushed for 100 yards and quarterback Jimmy Clausen had no turnovers.
Still, if Sunday’s loss was the best we can expect from Fox this year, then his best simply isn’t good enough.
The Panthers still lacked energy, enthusiasm and, most important heart, all of which rests on the shoulders of Fox. It’s not too late to salvage some of the last seven games.
It’s obvious that Fox has one foot out of the door. Why wait for the season to end? Replace him now with defensive coordinator Ron Meeks.
