Three CMS schools win national awards
Three CMS magnet schools won national awards this week for academic excellence:
Smith Academy of International Languages won the Donald R. Waldrip Award as the best elementary program at the Magnet Schools of America conference in Tampa. Smith is a combined elementary/middle school where students are taught in French, German, Chinese, Japanese and Spanish. The award carries a $2,500 cash prize.
Davidson IB won the American Education Solutions award for best middle school program at the same Tampa conference. This award also carries a $2,500 prize.
Phillip O. Berry High School was one of six schools to receive a 2010 National School Change award, which recognizes improvements in academic performance, school climate and public perception. The award carries a $5,000 prize. Students at Phillip O. Berry specialize in engineering, information technology or medical sciences/biotechnology.
