Tiger will miss Wells Fargo Championship
Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that he will miss the Wells Fargo Championship because of a minor injury.
Woods, who won here in 2007, suffered a Grade 1 mild medial collateral ligament sprain to his left knee and a mild strain to his left Achilles tendon while hitting an awkward shot from pine straw during the third round of the Masters. Woods continued to play at Augusta and later decided to seek a medical evaluation.
Woods called tournament officials in Charlotte to personally express his regrets.
“I thought that was incredibly gracious of him,” Wells Fargo tournament director Kym Hougham was quoted as saying in the Charlotte Observer. “We had a nice conversation and he said he loves the tournament, loves the feel of it and the way the community embraces the event but he’s going to have to miss it.”
Woods said on his website that doctors have advised him to rest and undergo cold-water therapy and soft tissue treatment.
"This is an outstanding event, but I must follow doctors' orders to get better," he said.
