Tough season predicted for JCSU football
If the 2011 CIAA coaches poll is correct, it looks like another tough year for Johnson C. Smith University football fans.
The team is picked to finish 10th – third from last -- in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The only CIAA teams picked to finish with a worse conference records are Lincoln University (11th) and Livingstone College (12th).
Results of the 2011 poll were release at a CIAA press conference last week at Virginia State University.
Shaw University, which won the conference last season, was picked to repeat.
The Golden Bulls finished the 2010 season with a record of 2-8. They return 26 lettermen for the upcoming season, including 10 starters.
JCSU was picked to finish fifth in the CIAA’s Southern Division. Incidentally, the top four CIAA teams in the overall preseason poll are from the Southern Division.
The Charlotte team opens the season at home on Saturday, September 3 against West Virginia State University. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
