Two dead in separate motorcycle crashes
Two people died Saturday in separate crashes involving motorcycles:
Sharaz Osman, 22, was killed when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a pickup truck on Mallard Creek Road at the intersection of Keaton Avenue. Witnesses told police the motorcycle was accelerating and passing other vehicles in a right-turn lane as it approached the intersection. The pickup, driven by Brenda Hunter Corey, 62, was approaching from the opposite direction and was attempting a left turn from Mallard Creek Road onto Keaton Avenue. Corey was uninjured. Police are investigating the crash.
Susan Fries died at Carolinas Medical Center after a motorcycle she was riding, along with Darrell Fries, collided with two cars on Independence Boulevard. Police said the motorcycle was traveling east on Independence when it approached traffic that had slowed for road maintenance. The motorcycle skid out of control as it tried to stop and struck the rear of two vehicles. Susan Fries was thrown into the roadway. Darrell Fries also was taken to Carolinas Medical Center. The extent of his injuries were not immediately released.
