University City sees rise in thefts from autos
POLICE ALERT: The University City area has seen a large increase in larceny from autos, CMPD reported Wednesday, Dec. 1.
The largest increases have been in apartment complexes at night and in retail parking lots during the day.
Police said residents should call 911 to report suspicious persons, vehicles and activity. The department also reminded residents to remove all items in their vehicles.

PEDESTRIAN INJURED: A 21-year-old pedestrian was struck by a Charlotte Fire Department vehicle Friday afternoon near the intersection of Little Rock and Tuckaseegee roads.
Quaroney Dewalt was reported in serous condition at Carolinas Medical Center.
According to police reports, Dewalt was attempting to cross Little Rock Road on foot when he was struck by a 2009 Chevrolet Impala driven by fire department employee Rebecca Brown, 51.
Police continue to investigate. Speed was not a factor, investigators said in their initial report.

FUGITIVE CAPTURED: CMPD on Friday announced the arrest of Marsalle Mitchell, a man with a lengthy arrest
record who cut off his electronic monitor on Tuesday, Nov. 30.
The Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) found Marsalle hiding inside a vacant house on Cox Avenue in Charlotte.
After a short standoff with police, Mitchell was arrested without incident. He faces multiple charges related to breaking and entering as well as new charges for assaulting his girlfriend and cutting off the electronic monitor.
