Vandals overnight painted graffiti on the outside of Independence High School, CMS officials said Wednesday.

The writing covers the outside walls of several buildings, mobile classrooms, cars and activity buses, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools spokeswoman LaTarzja Henry told reporters at an unrelated media briefing.

CMS law enforcement and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating. Henry said some of the writing appeared to be gang related.

School officials discovered the graffiti when they reported to work Wednesday morning. Henry said the goal is to have all of the writing removed before school opens next week.
