A pedestrian who walked into the path of a southbound Amtrak train was stuck and killed Sunday night in Charlotte.

Authorities did not immediately release the victim’s name pending notification of relatives.

According to police statement, the incident occurred at 8:20 p.m. in the 500 block of E. Sugar Creek Road. The train, en route to Charlotte from Raleigh, was carrying 126 passengers. No one on the train was injured.

Police said the victim was attempting to cross the tracks when struck. The crossing arms were said to be down and warning lights were said to be flashing.
