A person lying on a train track was struck and killed Sunday by a Norfolk Southern train traveling south near the 1300 block of Archdale Drive in south Charlotte.

Police did not immediately release the victim’s name.

According to initial reports, the incident happened at about 9:51 p.m. Police said the train’s driver tried to stop but was unable to avoid striking the victim, who was killed instantly.

This case is currently under investigation.
