Weiner seeks treatment, Democratic leaders want resignation
Should Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) step down? While some believe his indiscretions are a private matter, Democratic leaders demanded his resignation on Saturday, as Weiner announced he is requesting a leave of absence and seeking treatment.

Weiner spokeswoman Risa Heller said the Congressman is seeking “professional treatment to focus on becoming a better husband and healthier person,” reports the Washington Post.

Yet, Democratic leaders want Weiner to leave all together. They say his Twitter scandal and admission that he had been involved in “inappropriate” online conduct with at least six women make him unfit for office.

“I urge Congressman Weiner to seek that help without the pressures of being a Member of Congress,” said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who is among those calling for his resignation.

According to his spokesperson, Weiner has already departed for treatment, but it remains unclear exactly what type of treatment he is seeking. Weiner will decide on the fate of his political future after his time away.

Friday, it was reported that police were investigating his online contact with a high school student in Delaware. Although the police determined no laws were broken, many are concerned that he was corresponding with a 17-year-old girl at all.

Weiner would not comment on his online communications with the minor, but admits to making mistakes. He told reporters he wants to redeem himself and get back to work. “These were personal failings. So, I’m trying not to let them get in the way of my professional work,” he said.

As he was fielding questions from a group reporters who followed him as he ran errands, Weiner was approached by a lady who said she supports him. “That’s your private life. You are a great man,” she said.

QUESTION: If a person like Weiner has what Creflo Dollar might refer to as a “wreck” in their personal lives, should it mean the end of their professional or political career? Share your opinions in the comments section below.
