A growing number of liberals, including African Americans such as Clarence Jones, former personal counsel to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., are now calling on Democrats to consider running a primary candidate against President Obama.

Not since the late Sen. Ted Kennedy challenged President Carter has a sitting chief executive been challenged for re-election within his own party.

On their radio show, Tavis Smiley and Cornel West continued their ongoing assessment of Obama. West said the president has wracked up “hollow legislative victories” but has done nothing for poor people or to address the so-called prison industrial complex.

Responding to a recent critic who said the Obama administration has suffered a “moral collapse,” West added: “It didn’t have too far to fall, because it didn’t have high moral practice in the first place.”

“People are beginning to see what you were talking about two or three years ago,” he said to Smiley, “what I was talking about two or three years ago...The wake-up process is taking place. It is a very sad reality, but we have to see the reality for what it is.”

QUESTIONS: Is the president deserving of such criticism? Could you imagine voting against him? Or is much of this simple hateration?
