President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration committee has collected more than $24 million toward its $40 million goal, according to an online database the committee recently posted.

Many donors, including two in the Charlotte area, wrote checks for $25,000 or more.

The list includes financial titans such as George Soros and four family members -- $50,000 each. Steven Spielberg and Jamie Foxx donated, too, as did Motown founder Berry Gordy.

The committee took what it called the "unprecedented steps" of posting the database "to insure(sic) transparency in the public reporting of donors to a Presidential Inaugural Committee."

The database lists only those who gave more than $200.
