Who shot the robbery suspect? Police want to know
Police have charged three men with a Tuesday night armed robbery in the 1700 block of West Boulevard. At the same time, officers are conducting a separate investigation to determine how one of the suspects ended up at Carolinas Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the head.
The West Boulevard robbery was reported at about 10:36 p.m. Tuesday. The victim told police he was robbed at gunpoint by three black males and that the suspects fled in a vehicle.
The victim said he met the suspects at a different location and drove with them to West Boulevard. Police said all four men had “loose affiliations.”
Police said they have determined that no shots were fired during that robbery.
A short time later, however, officers were called to Carolina Medical Center for a man with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
Police now say that the wounded man – 24-year-old Chase Cousar -- was one of the three men who committed the West Boulevard holdup. Investigators also believe that two other men who dropped him off at CMC -- Cumar Craig Howard, 24, and Diavion Washington, 24 -- also were involved in the robbery.
All three were charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery. Howard and Washington were in the Mecklenburg jail. Cousar, last reported in critical condition, will be taken to jail when he is released, police said.
