Winston-Salem State took home both the men’s and women’s CIAA Cross Country Championships Thursday – the first such titles in school history.

The men’s team outscored Bowie State 26 to 50, while the women’s squad squeaked past Virginia State 34 to 35. The Rams also swept the individual tiles with Andrew Chebii winning the men’s 8K race and Brittney Killebrew finishing first for the women.

The championships were held at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.

“This was a great day for us today,” WSSU head coach Inez Turner said. “I have a great assistant coach and our athletes are positive. We preach positivity which helps them win.”

After four years in Division I, the Rams returned this year to the CIAA.

In football, the Rams are 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the CIAA.
