With CIAA ahead, let's go slow this weekend
CIAA week is right around the corner, and Qcity residents are gearing up!
I know the ladies are shopping, and the men, as well, will pick up a few outfits. So this week, I’ve decided to keep my picks on the relaxed and easy-going side.
FRIDAY
MOOZ-lum ~ This film by director/writer Qasim Basir shows Muslim Americans in all their
forms and complexities. Without a doubt, Basir has the potential to become the next Oscar Micheaux or Spike Lee.
Location: AMC Carolina Pavilion 22 (9542 South Blvd)
Time: 11:15 a.m., 1:50 p.m., 4:25 p.m., 7:20 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Cost: $10.

SATURDAY
CMPD Family Day ~ This event, in conjunction with the “Beneath the Badge” exhibit, is a chance for residents to interact with some of the men and women of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department who serve our community. See demonstrations by the canine unit, SWAT Team and bomb squad. Learn crime-prevention techniques or crime scene search tactics. Hands-on activities will be available for visitors of all ages.
Location: The Charlotte Museum of History and Hezekiah Alexander Homesite (3500 Shamrock Drive)
Time: 12–3 p.m.
Cost: $6 for adults, $5.00 for students and seniors, $3.00 for children 6-12 and free for children under 6. Discounts are also available for military, teachers, and AAA members.

SUNDAY
Latta Equestrian Center Horseback Riding ~ Definitely one of my all-time favorites
events. For only $25! Don’t worry about being a first-time rider; it’s a new year and a new you. I hope to see you there.
Location: Latta Plantation Nature Preserve (6201 Sample Road Huntersville).
Hours: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Call in advance to reserve a riding time.
