A 30-year-old woman was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Sunday while trying to cross Monroe Road in the 5900 block near Ashmore Drive.

The victim was identified as Valerie Michelle Miranda.

The crash occurred just before 3 a.m.

Police said the vehicle may have been a dark-colored pickup truck with double rear wheels and may have damage to the right front headlight assembly and right front corner as a result of the crash.

The driver was headed inbound toward downtown Charlotte when the crash occurred and fled without attempting to help the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
