Woman, 73, dies after being struck by car
A 73-year-old woman has died from injuries she sustained when she was struck by a car Thursday afternoon in east Charlotte.
The woman was identified by police as Bernice Williams Whitmire.
According to a police report, Whitmire, a pedestrian, was attempting to cross in the 3000 block of Milton Road at about 12:26 p.m. when she walked into the path of a 2008 Suzuki Forenza driven by 19-year-old Kendra Michelle Huey.
Whitmire was taken to Carolina's Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. She died about five hours later.
Huey, who was uninjured in the crash, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. She was cited for driving without a license.
