 Melissa Wooten

Police have charged a 29-year-old driver with manslaughter in the death of a pedestrian Thursday night in north Charlotte.

Rosemarie Lyle, 55, was attempting to cross the 3500 block of N. Tryon Street near Guy E. Suddreth Avenue when she stepped off the curb and into the right outbound lane and was struck by a 2000 Honda Accord driven by Melissa Wooten. The accident occurred just before 11 p.m.

Lyle died of her injuries at Carolina Medical Center.

The driver stopped her vehicle in a nearby parking lot and returned to the scene of the crash. Field sobriety tests indicated Ms. Wooten was impaired and she was arrested and charged with DWI. She also was charged with involuntary manslaughter, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
