A woman was found dead late Wednesday behind a business on N. Tryon Street.

As of Thursday morning police had not released the victim’s name or offered information on a possible cause of death.

Police said a witness called 911 shortly after 7 p.m. to report seeing a women lying on the ground behind a business in the 1000 block of North Tryon. When officers arrived they found the woman unresponsive. She was pronounced dead an hour later at Carolinas Medical Center.

The woman was found in a parking lot just north of uptown beyond the Brookshire Freeway.

Detectives late Wednesday were canvassing the area for possible evidence.
