A 28-year-old woman was shot and killed in west Charlotte Wednesday night, and her boyfriend was arrested as a suspect.
Police say Pamela Garmon died inside a home in the 6200 block of Summerour Place, just north of Tuckaseegee and Toddville roads. Officers went to the home just before 10:30 p.m. after receiving a call from neighbors who reported an apparent assault with a deadly weapon.
While officers were investigating, police received a call concerning an armed carjacking at Northlake Mall. The carjacking suspect matched the description of 28-year-old Jamar Springs, Garmon's boyfriend.
Police said Springs, possibly armed with a rifle, may have fled the Summerour Place home in an older-model Cadillac.
At Northlake Mall, the carjacking suspect forced the driver out of the car and kept a passenger as hostage. The passenger was released unharmed near Sam Furr and Statesville roads in Huntersville, where, according to police, the suspect fled on foot.
Police surrounded the area, and officers from Huntersville, Davidson and Cornelius joined CMPD in a search for the carjacking suspect. Springs was arrested without incident, police said.
CMPD spokeswoman Rosalyn Harrington said Springs was taken to the Mecklenburg jail. No charges were announced as of 7 a.m. Thursday.
