Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found late Thursday in the parking lot of an east Charlotte apartment complex.

Authorities early Friday identified the victim as 50-year-old Catherine Barca. They did not provide any information relating to a possible cause of death.

The victim’s body was reported to police at 9 p.m. It was found lying in the parking lot of the Runaway Bay Apartments in the 8100 block of Runaway Bay Drive, between Monroe Road and Independence Boulevard.

Investigators late Thursday were collecting physical evidence and going door to door asking residents if they had seen or heard anything suspicious. Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit were called to assist.
