Worker finds human skull north of uptown
A city contract worker found human remains today while clearing a concrete drainage ditch just north of uptown.
A human skull, believed to be that of an African American male, was found about 10 a.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of Wadsworth Place, just beyond the Brookshire Freeway and east of N. Tryon Street.
A worker for Blythe Development, a contractor for Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s Storm Water Services, was working to clear an overgrown tributary when he uncovered the remains.
The workers shut down their machinery and called 911. Metro Division officers taped off the scene and notified CMPD’s homicide unit.
A CMPD spokesman said officers would search the area for additional bones. They also will work to see if the remains match reports of a missing person.
The county medical examiners will determine whether foul play is suspected. So far, no indications of trauma were found.
Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
