syndicated morning show from Shaw University on Friday.
It’s all part of the school’s efforts to raise money as it seeks to recover from an April 16 tornado that badly damaged the Raleigh campus.
Entertainment will include national recording artist Ernest Pugh and the Shaw University Gospel Choir.
“We are delighted that Radio One and Ms. Adams were compelled to reach out to us at such a critical time,” Dorothy Yancy, Shaw’s interim president, said in a statement.
University officials said tornado relief is now the school’s No. 1 fundraising goal, but Anita Brower, vice-president of institutional advancement, added: “Shaw also needs contributions so we can award scholarships to our bright and promising students.”
During the 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. broadcast, listeners will be prompted to make checks payable to Shaw University and mail them to the Office of Institutional Advancement, 118 E. South Street, Raleigh, NC 27601 and reference “Yolanda – Disaster Relief” or “Yolanda – Scholarship” in the memo section of the check. Online donations are also being accepted and listeners will be encouraged to make a donation at www.shawu.edu.

Record enrollment at Jackson State
Jackson State University announced record enrollment this fall. School officials said 8,903 students are pursuing degrees there, up 2.5 percent over last year.
“I’m happy to see more students are choosing Jackson State and am confident that we will continue to serve an increasing number of students,” university President Carolyn W. Meyers said in a statement.
The enrollment increase comes on the heels of a new report by Washington Monthly magazine ranking JSU among the top 10 colleges and universities in the nation. The ranking considered the school’s social mobility, research and service ratings.
Coming in at No. 9 among 258 institutions, Jackson State outranked Princeton (No. 31), Yale (No. 39), the Georgia Institute of Technology (No. 54) and Howard (No. 73) universities. It was the only HBCU to break into Washington Monthly’s top 10.
